Dublin Ohio’s Watch House and Circle Mound Featured on Ohio’s America 250 Creativity Trail

Dublin, Ohio — In the lead-up to America’s 250th anniversary, Dublin has partnered with the America 250-Ohio Commission to be an official stop on its new Ohio Creativity Trail. “Watch House and Circle Mound,” located in Coffman Park and created by Ohio resident Todd Slaughter, is part of the experiential driving trail of 109 sites across Ohio showcasing the past and present writers, musicians, artists and other creatives who have made significant contributions to artistic expression. The Creativity Trail is the second of six planned experiential trails for America 250-Ohio’s signature Trails & Tales program. The sites are categorized as follows: On the Page, Music, Visual Arts, Glass & Pottery, Folk & Traditional Art and Carousels.

“It’s no secret that Ohioans leave their mark on the world, whether in the form of paint on a canvas, words on a page, or new artistic ways to express thoughts and ideas,” said Todd Kleismit, Executive Director of America 250-Ohio. “In partnership with Dublin, Ohio, we’re showcasing their great work, as well as other talented artists across Ohio, to generate excitement for our state’s significant contributions to the cultural fabric of America. We look forward to celebrating with Dublin throughout 2025 and 2026.”

“Watch House and Circle Mound” are part of the Dublin Art in Public Places collection, which includes more than 60 large and small-scale, permanent and temporary artworks in public spaces throughout the city. A self-guided cell phone tour and Art in Public Places mobile pass are free, along with audio storytelling where artists explain their inspiration. Coffman Park has five additional installations that can be easily visited simultaneously. There is also an ARTbox located at the Dublin Community Recreation Center near the artwork, where anyone can pick up materials and art supplies to create art.

Todd Slaughter is an Ohio-based artist and professor at The Ohio State University in the Department of Art’s Sculpture Program. Slaughter has had solo exhibitions of his work in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Portsmouth and Lancaster, as well as several group exhibitions around Ohio.

Dublin City Council approved a resolution to become an official America 250 community in April 2024. As the excitement builds for America’s Semiquincentennial, Dublin has begun planning local events and activities to celebrate. A committee has been formed with representatives from local organizations to collaborate and plan engaging activities for all ages. More details will be shared in the coming year.
