Spring Literacy Program

The Dublin Chamber and its young professionals organization have partnered with Dublin City Schools to form the NextGen Dublin Literacy Program, and we are looking for volunteer Book Buddies. Book Buddies will work with Riverside Elementary first-grade students one lunch hour per week for eight weeks to help improve the students' literacy and comprehension skills.

The spring Literacy Program starts the week of Jan. 27 and runs through March 14. As a volunteer, you have the flexibility to choose the day of the week you would like to volunteer. You will meet with students at Riverside Elementary, 3260 Riverside Green Dr., Dublin, OH 43017 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on your selected day.

A volunteer training session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Elementary School for all new volunteers. A boxed lunch will be provided. Before this date, all new Literacy Program volunteers must be fingerprinted at the Dublin City Schools central office, 7030 Coffman Rd., Dublin. Walk-in finger printing is done every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you need to make special arrangements to get fingerprinted, please call the central office at 614-764-5913 to set up an appointment. Note to previous volunteers: Fingerprinting is valid for five years.

Also, please note that volunteers would not go to Riverside Elementary during snow days, snow delays or during any of the Dublin City Schools holidays, including Feb. 17, 2014. If you cannot make your selected day for any reason, please call Riverside Elementary at (614) 764-5940.

When submitting your RSVP, please list the day of the week you would like to volunteer and if you plan on attending the training session on Jan. 22.

By attending a Chamber event you are granting permission to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, the Dublin Chamber Civic Foundation and anyone authorized by the Chamber to have unlimited right, without charge, to use your likeness in photos, videos, recordings and in all media now known or hereafter created to be used and distributed in perpetuity for promotional and publicity purposes.
