This year's featured speaker is Michael A. Brown, an economist for Wells Fargo Securities. Based in Charlotte, N.C., he is responsible for tracking national and regional economic trends. He also writes for the company’s Weekly Economic & Financial Commentary, and provides analysis and commentary on the national economy, the consumer sector, federal fiscal policy, and state and local budget issues.
Michael’s research interests include regional economics, the links between education and employment, information economics, and econometrics. Prior to joining the economics group in 2010, Michael served as an economist and legislative analyst for the Arkansas General Assembly. In this role, Michael’s research included education policy issues, state fiscal policy issues, and the Arkansas economy.
Michael’s commentary has been featured on several radio programs including shows on CBS Radio and National Public Radio. His work has also been cited in several publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, and Bloomberg News. Michael earned his B.S. in business economics and his master’s degree in economics from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. He also completed additional graduate coursework in economics at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies in Atlanta.
He is a member of the National Association of Business Economics (NABE), American Economic Association, the Southern Economic Association, and the Charlotte Economics Club. Reflecting his strong support for education, Michael serves as a member of the Business Alumni Advisory Council for the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
