DESCRIPTION:To celebrate World Blood Donor Day and bring awareness of the need for blood donations of people and their dogs\, The Red Cross\, GHI Blood Bank and Ohio Pet Charities will present World Blood Donor Day & Pet Expo. The event will be held on Saturday\, June 15th from 10am - 2pm at the Dublin Rec Center and adjacent green space. The Red Cross will be doing a blood drive for people\, while the GHI Blood Bank will screen dogs for their blood donation program. The Ohio Pet Charities Pet Expo will have pet vendors\, food trucks and activities for all!\n\n\n\nThere is a critical need for both human and canine blood in the world. Blood\, plasma and platelets are needed for many different reasons in both communities. Blood donation helps save the lives of accident victims\, surgery patients and those receiving treatment for cancers or other diseases. According to the Red Cross\, "In the Central & Southern Ohio Region\, on average\, approximately 500 donations are needed each day from area [human] blood donors". The GHI Blood Bank states that "Universal canine blood has a waitlist for veterinarians of up to 2 months because of the blood shortage.
