Dublin City Schools - District Facts

Dublin City Schools

The Dublin City School District is one of Ohio’s best.

For five consecutive years, the district has earned Ohio’s highest rating on the local report card. In 2007-08, the district received the Excellent with Distinction rating, and ALL of the district’s 19 buildings were rated Excellent or Excellent with Distinction.

One of the main reasons we are able to perform consistently at high levels is the support of our community.

In November 2008, Dublin City Schools voters approved Issue 76, a combined operating levy/bond issue that insured our district would be able to maintain its excellent programs and staff.

The combined operating levy/bond issue will enable the district to operate through June 2013, without additional operating money. It will fund a myriad of projects, including the district’s new elementary school just north of Jerome Village.

The timelines for the Issue 76 projects vary and will span a few years, but implementation is already underway.

The first item our community will see implemented is an instant notification system, which will be used in emergencies and in select other cases to communicate immediately with parents. It will allow us to call several thousand parents at once, with parents controlling their contact information via an online parental portal.

The main feature of the safety and security portion of the bond issue is the reconfiguration of the district’s school building entrances to prevent unauthorized access during the school day. The majority of the entrance reconfiguration will take place during the summer when the students are not in class.

The addition of 10 classrooms at Coffman High School, and four classrooms at Karrer and Davis middle schools, is at the top of the Issue 76 priority list.  The additional classrooms will allow us to minimize redistricting at the high school level and indefinitely delay the construction of a $30 to $35-million middle school.

The construction of our new elementary school will be timed to provide us ample time to furnish and finish the new facility for an August 2012 opening.

The implementation of Issue 76 is only one of the items on our plate during 2009. I have worked closely with the Board of Education to set goals that will ultimately benefit our students and our taxpayers.

As an administrative team, we will be assessing current human resources practices and procedures, improving assessment measures in the district, assessing the quality and consistency of district K-12 reading and writing, and reviewing middle school programs and instruction to improve consistency. These are ambitious goals, that when completed, will help our district continue to progress toward its goal of being one of the country’s best.
